Why Carson City Needs a Bike Park

Why Carson City Needs a Bike Park at Centennial Park

Carson City is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, and an exciting addition is building momentum to enhance our current recreation infrastructure and elevate our community's outdoor offerings—a dedicated, premier community bike park at Centennial Park in Northeastern Carson City.

A bike park is a specially designed area for mountain bikers of all skill levels, offering features like pump tracks, flow trails, and dirt jumps. It provides a controlled environment with various difficulty levels where riders can safely practice, compete, and have fun, making it a perfect place for beginners and seasoned riders.

The Carson City Bike Park (CCBP) is a work in progress, and the current Centennial Park master plan survey is crucial in making it a reality. This park isn’t just for riders—it’s a community-driven project that promises the entire community economic, health, educational, and social benefits.

Boosting Business & Community:

Bike parks nationwide attract visitors, help revitalize local businesses, and create jobs. The Carson City Bike Park will draw mountain bikers locally, regionally, and nationally, giving them another reason to visit our restaurants, shops, and hotels.

More importantly, this park is for our community. It will provide a safe, fun space for families and riders of all ages to enjoy the outdoors, hone their skills, and lead active, healthy lives. It’s a place where kids can put down their screens and experience the thrill and challenges of outdoor adventure.

Education, Environmental Stewardship, & Conservation:

The bike park will offer educational opportunities, from local history to real-world applications of engineering, physics, and environmental science—demonstrating how recreation and stewardship coexist.

Built with sustainability in mind, the CCBP will also respect the natural environment and minimize disruption to existing habitats. The park also conserves and keeps Carson City Open Space accessible for continued community access.

Community-Driven, Fiscally Responsible:

Muscle Powered, a local non-profit focused on creating pedestrian—and bicycle-friendly infrastructure by maintaining and developing trails and resources, is driving this project. No taxpayer money will be required to build or maintain the park. Instead, it will be funded through private donations, grants, and sponsorships from businesses and individuals passionate about this vision.

A Vision for the Future:

The Carson City Bike Park will be a transformative addition to our community. It’s more than a place to ride bikes—it’s a space for connection, adventure, and creating lasting memories. Now’s the time to show your support.

Complete the Centennial Park survey and help us turn this vision into reality. Together, we can build an exciting future for Carson City.
